His passion and knowledge of the game at the local and pro level has translated into an entertaining and informative program each Wednesday afternoon through the hockey season. Geoff’s knack of finding interesting guests has helped to grow an audience of Ottawa Valley hockey fans who want to learn more about hockey from the grassroots level to the NHL and beyond. For close to three decades, Geoff has been connected to the Pembroke Lumber Kings Jr A hockey club, wearing many hats including PA announcer at the PMC, trainer, community relations and marketing director, assistant coach and assistant GM. And he is now the Voice of the Lumber Kings on all TV and radio broadcasts. You’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger Philadelphia Flyers on the planet, and the station expects to have Geoff on the airwaves until a job opens up for a radio voice in Philly. Geoff and his wife Laurie call the Cobden area home. Program Rink Wrap Tune in each Wednesday during the hockey season at 5 p.m. for Rink Wrap, the station’s hockey talk show. Host Geoff Patterson will bring you up to speed on everything happening on rinks around the Ottawa Valley and beyond. With Geoff’s connections in the hockey world, you’ll never know who he’ll be chatting with. The impressive list of people he’s interviewed on the show includes Sheldon Keefe, Bobby Clarke, Tim Kerr, Brian Propp, Bill Clement (see a pattern here, Philly fans?), Cassie Campbell, Bob McKenzie, James Duthie, Michael Landsberg, Jack Quinn, Liam McGuire, and the list goes on and on! Mike Cloutier < Back Kitchen Party Live Mike Cloutier Saturday 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm One of the most unique shows at the station, Kitchen Party Live is just that – a kitchen party that takes place live on the Thomas Cavanagh Stage each Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Since January 30th of 2010, there have been more than 140 live shows at the station that are broadcast on the air from our stage. Board Members < Back < Back Fay Kolpin Vice President Fay and her husband Hans moved to the Ottawa Valley more than 30 years ago and live just outside White Lake in a log home that they rebuilt themselves from an old and derelict log house relocated from the Stittsville area. Fay worked as a human resource professional for nearly 30 years – mainly in high-tech in Ottawa, but she also worked in non-profit and for the last five years before retirement at the Donnelly Automotive Group in Ottawa. Since retiring Fay has been very active in volunteer work in the Valley. She is vice-president of the Board of Directors for VHR and takes care of the human resources for the radio station on a volunteer basis. She is also an active Board member for the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation. Fay and Hans have three daughters and eight grandchildren, and after more than three decades in the area, are proud to call themselves Valley folk!

1a2b4786-2853-4c3a-8fde-cba0165d01ef OUR DJs < Back Vic Garbutt Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Vic was exposed at an early age to country music when families gathered around the old ‘wireless’ radio to listen to stations WSM (Nashville) and WWVA (Wheeling, West Virgina). Every Saturday night the house rang cheerfully with fiddle and country music. Not wanting to work in the mines, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1959, to ‘see the world’. Vic got into the radio business as a volunteer in the early 1960s at CFWH at Whitehorse, Yukon and hosted his first country radio program in 1962 at A.R.S. (now CHAR) in Alert, NWT. He moved to the Ottawa Valley in 1965, but continued his country music programs intermittently until 1972. After an early retirement, Vic began DJ’ing again with Pontiac Radio, CHIP in 1996. In seven years at CHIP, he hosted traditional country music programs in English and French. In 2003, after much urging from folks in eastern Ontario, Vic, with his wife Linda Mae, were key players in the founding of Valley Heritage Radio. Vic has retired from Valley Heritage Radio’s board of directors, but still spends many hours collecting and preparing music for station databases and his own radio programs. He continues to volunteer, attend and MC events in the community. In the fall of 2014 both Vic and his wife Linda Mae were inducted into the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame. Programs Vic's Country Classic Vic’s Classic Country program specializes in the easier-listening ‘traditional’ sounds of country music, both old and new. The program also features treasures from the past (40s, 50s and 60s), which prompt memories of cherished days gone by. Great regional music from all across Canada, including the truly unique music of the Maritimes and the Ottawa Valley will have you joining in and, some of the finest fiddle music in the world will get your toes a-tapping and your knees a-bouncin’! Vic selects his music from an enormous personal collection of more than 15,000 recorded media including 78 RPM, 45 RPM and LP records, cassette tapes and CDs. So if you’re looking for that special old song or tune from the past, he can likely find it for you. Vic is proud to announce that he plays more than 50% Canadian content on his program. Join him Saturdays from 7 to 9 a.m., and sit back, relax, put your feet up and enjoy! Rock n' Roll The heyday of rock and roll was the 1950s and 60s, and that’s just what you’ll hear when you tune into the Rock n’ Roll show each Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. What a way to lift your spirits on a Monday, as you’ll hear everything played at sock hops during the glory days of rock and roll! Board Members < Back < Back Mary Etmanski Director Since the age of 16 Mary’s motto has been ‘Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’. When she was four she started her journey singing and gained substantial experience in the music industry and theatre with her stage performances. For many years she organized, produced and/or directed numerous music shows and youth choirs while at the same time enjoying sports. Mary, valley-born on a farm in Northcote is married to her best friend Mike Etmanski who together are very proud of their ‘kids’ and their grandkids! Life has not always been easy but never too much to knock her off her game. Always looking for new learning experiences, a variety of employment opportunities and being an owner of a small business has helped her with her numerous projects. She is no stranger to Boards and Committees and is privileged to be granted the opportunity to sit on the Board of Directors of Valley Heritage Radio. With her history in business, fundraising, theatre and country music she will add her resourcefulness and energy to the existing team at the station.

Board Members < Back < Back Mackie McLaren Treasurer Mackie retired from his position as the CAO/Clerk for the Township of Horton in 2016, and the Township’s loss was our gain. After 27 years at the helm of the Township, Mackie joined our Board of Directors and was appointed Treasurer for the station. His experience and guidance has contributed greatly to the success of Valley Heritage Radio in recent years. His passion for volunteering and helping out in the community were a perfect fit here at VHR, and his love for the Ottawa Valley is evident. Mackie and his wife Joanne live in Renfrew.
