About the event
Discovering Nature of the Madawaska River Watershed
Discover your shoreline with a family-oriented ecoscience program from the Greater Madawaska Public Library and their partner Watersheds Canada. Join us for a 40-minute interactive indoor session to learn about the library's Nature Discovery backpacks and how you can use them for improved understanding of our local environment. In addition, we'll learn about shoreline conservation, and ways in which you can engage with community programs and services. There will be time for questions and conversation afterwards. This session will be followed by a volunteer-led outdoor session on a safe and shallow shoreline in your community at a later date for more in-depth learning and exploration.
Topics to be addressed:
- Watersheds Canada programs and services
- shoreline naturalization concepts
- introduction to the tools and resources that will help community members participate in citizen science projects
- species identification
- environmental stewardship
- water quality and how we can keep it clean
